Play Context

Privacy Policy

About this policy

This policy explains information handled when you use Play Context and its services. It concerns you as an app user; public sports information about teams and athletes is part of the app’s content.

Information on your device

The app saves followed teams, onboarding progress, viewing preferences, and cached game information on your device. It does not require a separate Play Context account. Searches within the app filter the available team or player information locally.

Followed teams can affect the team schedules requested from our servers. Keeping a preference on your device does not mean that all use of that preference stays offline. Device backups may also include saved app data, depending on your Apple settings.

Game requests and service logs

When you load schedules, games, players, team information, or news, the app sends the relevant dates and sports identifiers to our service. Our hosting infrastructure receives connection information such as an IP address. Service logs can include requested paths, request identifiers, times, response status, and processing duration.

This information supports delivery of the content, troubleshooting, and protection against excessive or unauthorized requests. The backend is hosted using Railway.

Purchases and RevenueCat

Apple processes payments and manages your Apple Account subscription. Play Context does not receive your full payment-card details. The app reads Apple-verified purchase information to check access and restore subscriptions. Signed purchase evidence may be sent to our service to verify paid access.

RevenueCat receives purchase and subscription information, including transaction identifiers, products, purchase and expiration dates, and renewal or refund status. It associates this information with a generated app-user identifier and uses it to support subscription tracking and reporting. The app uses RevenueCat’s generated anonymous identifier. We do not provide RevenueCat with your name, email address, or a custom Play Context account identifier, and we do not maintain a mapping from that anonymous identifier to your contact details. RevenueCat also receives Apple’s vendor identifier for your device when available, which is different from Apple’s advertising identifier, along with technical information such as app and system versions, locale, and currency.

App analytics

Play Context sends a small set of onboarding and subscription events to PostHog in its US region. We count which onboarding pages are viewed, when the subscription page appears, when Subscribe is tapped, and the general result of a purchase attempt. Each event includes the app version, build channel, and a generated analytics identifier that joins events from this installation. PostHog receives the IP address carried by each event request to process the request and filter bot traffic. Our project discards raw IP addresses before storing events, and the app disables IP-based location enrichment. We use these counts to see where people leave onboarding and how many reach the subscription page or subscribe.

The app does not send PostHog your name, email address, followed teams, game or player identifiers, purchase transaction identifiers, or purchase-error text. It does not record screens or automatically capture taps. Analytics is on when you open the app unless you turn off Share app usage in Settings, which you can open during onboarding or after subscribing. Turning it off does not affect access or price. You can copy your analytics ID in Settings to help us locate earlier events for a privacy request. Disabling collection does not erase events already received by PostHog; contact us to request deletion.

Sports content, news, and other services

The app uses generic helmet and jersey artwork and does not download team logos or player portraits from third-party image servers. Our backend obtains sports data from CFBD.

Opening an article takes you to its publisher’s website. That site can process information under its own privacy policy. Apple and RevenueCat also describe their handling of information in their policies, linked below.

Our public support and legal pages are hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub receives connection information when you visit those pages and handles it under its privacy statement. Those pages do not include advertising, analytics scripts, or contact forms. If you email us, we receive your email address and the information you choose to include, and use them to respond and handle your request.

Service-provider protections

RevenueCat, Railway, and PostHog process information for us under their applicable service terms and data-protection commitments. Those commitments address security, confidentiality, and assistance with privacy requests. We use their existing tools and procedures to handle information and requests described in this policy.

Permissions and tracking

The app does not ask for your contacts, camera, microphone, photo library, or precise device location. It does not include an advertising SDK or use Apple’s advertising identifier. Play Context does not itself track your activity over time across other companies’ websites or apps.

When you open an external article or website from Play Context, its provider may collect information about your online activity and use it for purposes such as personalization and advertising, including across websites or apps. The provider’s privacy policy and your settings govern those practices.

Our app and public-page code do not respond to browser Do Not Track signals. Hosting providers and external websites may respond under their own policies. Our public pages contain no advertising or tracking scripts. You can use your browser’s privacy controls when visiting external sites and consult their policies for available choices.

Your choices

You can change followed teams, turn Clutch alerts off, and turn app analytics off in Settings. Deleting the app removes its local app data from that installation, but does not cancel an Apple subscription or delete records held by Apple, RevenueCat, PostHog, hosting services, or device backups.

If you enable Clutch alerts, our service stores your Apple push token, a hashed installation identifier, a hashed subscription identifier, selected sports, and registration expiry to send game alerts through Apple Push Notification service. These records are used for app functionality, not advertising or analytics. Alert registrations expire within seven days unless refreshed when you use the app, and never extend beyond the last verified subscription expiry. Expired registration records are removed within 30 days, and duplicate-prevention records within seven days. Turning alerts off requires a connection to update the server; the app shows when a change has not synced. You can also disable notification delivery immediately in your device’s notification settings.

Manage subscription renewal in your Apple Account settings. Apple provides controls for its account data and backups. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information, subject to applicable exceptions. Contact us using the address below to make a request or ask a question about your information.

Describe your request and the information or activity it concerns. We may ask for limited information needed to locate relevant records and verify that you are entitled to make the request. An email address alone may not identify an anonymous subscription record. Do not send Apple Account passwords, full payment-card details, or government identification with your initial request.

We handle requests manually using our records and service providers’ supported tools. We will explain the outcome and any applicable limits, including records we cannot identify or must retain. Deleting subscription records does not cancel your Apple subscription. Continued use, restoring a purchase, or making a new purchase can create records again.

How long information is kept

Local preferences and caches remain on your device until changed, removed, or replaced by the app or operating system.

We keep operational records for as long as needed to deliver the service, troubleshoot problems, and protect its security. We keep support correspondence to resolve your request and provide relevant follow-up. Subscription records are kept as needed to manage access, refunds, disputes, and applicable legal obligations. Analytics events remain in PostHog under our project retention settings until deleted or de-identified; disabling future collection does not erase previously received events.

When those purposes no longer require personal information we control, we delete or de-identify it, subject to applicable legal, security, and dispute-related exceptions. For information held by service providers, we use their available tools or request their assistance. Provider-controlled logs, backups, and legally required records may remain under the providers’ retention practices; removal from active records does not necessarily erase every backup immediately. Apple maintains its account and transaction records under its own policies and legal requirements.

Children and policy changes

Play Context is intended for a general audience and is not designed to collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us using the address below so we can review the concern and take appropriate action.
